TEXT BOOK Hands in Clay by Charlotte F. Speight(on reserve) and/or Ceramics, a Potter's Handbook by Glenn C. Nelson (both are very good textbooks, any edition is acceptable)

GRADING CRITERIA 10 to 15 projects will be given each semester. Grading of the projects is based on two parts: concept (idea) and the execution of the concept (craftsmanship). There will also be written exams and journal reports over material covered in classroom lectures and material assigned in the text and library. Students will also be responsible for classroom duties, such as: kiln loading, firing, clay making, clean-up, etc. Averaging the projects and the tests plus satisfactory completion of classroom duties (classroom participation) will determine the student's final grade.

ATTENDANCE A major portion of the material covered in beginning ceramics deals with development of a skill level and a control of the medium. Students who attend class will generally develop those skills at a faster pace than those who do not. Attendance is recommended. If you plan to miss 3 or more classes I recommend that you register for audit and not credit.

OUT OF CLASS WORK To complete an assignment normally will require as many hours outside of class as it does in class.

STUDIO HOURS The ceramic facility is open during building hours---8am. til 11pm. Monday - Friday and 11am. til 11pm. weekends.
