This class, for summer Term 2, represents an introductory look at the American novel, by means of Romance, Realism, different forms of Naturalism, the Harlem Renaissance, and the satire of the "Southern Grotesque." Works include those of Hawthorne, Crane, Fitzgerald, Steinbeck, Toomer, and Flannery O'Connor.
