WELCOME TO RESEARCH

Research I

What is Research All About?

The research process is a long, tedious task that can be very daunting.  The most common question is "Where do I begin?  What kind of project can I do?"

It is my experience that most students are "turned off" by the word research.  I know I was the first time I started.  The two most important things I can advise students to do is:

    1.  KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid):  That doesn't mean KISS your professor in hopes that a "kiss will make it better."  Students have brilliant ideas for research and try to have ground-breaking research.  Although good ideas, it would take years to do the research you want to do.  This of course, would delay graduation.

    2.  Choose a topic you LOVE:  That doesn't mean something you LIKE!!!  You will be reading, studying, and living this topic for at least a year or more.  If you aren't really interested, you will more than likely HATE the process.  Therefore, a LOVE/HATE relationship occurs.
