Course Description: This is an introductory course to the sport of track and field. The purpose of this course is to enhance the student’s knowledge, skills, and strategies of the sport. A better appreciation of track and field will be achieved by learning skills, and strategies. This course will include lecture, drills, track meet, and a significant amount of participation by the students.
Course Objectives Gain an understanding of the rules and strategies in the sport of track and field. Develop better skills for running, jumping, and throwing events. Improve physical fitness and conditioning need for track and field. Have fun!
Attire/Equipment Proper attire is crucial for a safe and successful class. T-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts, and/or sweats are all acceptable (avoid clothing with zippers). Tennis shoes along with cotton socks will best support your feet. You must have tennis shoes on at all times to participate. Tennis shoes with black soles or high platforms are not acceptable. Limit your jewelry- hoop earrings, necklaces, and rings are potential hazards. Place backpacks, jackets, and/or other items on the bleachers if you do not use a locker.
Attendance/Participation Attendance and participation are required. Roll Call will be held daily at the beginning of each class meeting. It is the student’s responsibility to notify the teacher if you are tardy to avoid the absence. (3 late arrivals = 1 Absence). 0 Absences = 100 points 1 Absence = 90 points 2 Absences = 80 points 3 Absences = 70 points 4 Absences = Failing Grade of F in the Course; subject to be dropped from class
Note: Not participating in class counts for an Absence as well.
Grading: Attendance: 100 points Final Exam: 100 points Fitness/Skills Assessment: 100 points
Final Exam Final Exam: TBA NO MAKE-UP or EARLY EXAMS will be given.
Academic Honesty: Cheating on the Final Exam will result in a Failing Grade “F” for the course.
Liability Statement: This is a class which involves physical activity and there is always a risk of injury or accident. Therefore, it is suggested that: You notify the instructor if there are any medical problems or physical disabilities that would limit your full participation in class. Students over the age of 35 and those less than 35 who have any history of medical problems, either themselves or in their family, consult with their physician to determine if they are “cleared” to fully participate in this class. Each student should carry health insurance.
