Course Discussion Group and Chatroom

Yahoo Groups!

Theory I will be using Yahoo Groups for posting questions pertaining to class topics, and for chatting with other members of the class including the professor. If you're stumped and require some help on an issue, this is where you need to go. All students registered in the class should visit here on a daily basis.

Accessing the discussion group is easy. Simply click on the link above, which is also on the class's home page, register (initially) by establishing a logon and password, or sign-in (if you're already registered) and zippie, you're there! You may then begin posting messages, or visit the chatroom.

The Discussion Group

When you arrive at the Astate Music Fundamentals discussion group at Yahoo, you may post a question or comment by clicking the "Post" link located on the left hand side of the screen.

The Discussion Group is established for the discussion of issues pertinent to the class. It is a very important element in the course and it is expected that each student spend some DAILY time discussing questions with other students and the instructor. The daily posting of questions to this group will improve your participation grade. Keep in mind that any posting you make here is sent to ALL the students registered for the class. If there are private concerns you have, you should send them to my personal email address.

Important class related issues may be posted here from time to time by the professor, so check often.

The Chatroom

When you arrive at the Astate Music Fundamentals discussion group at Yahoo, the Chatroom may be accessed by clicking on the "Chat" link to the left of the screen.

Scheduled chats may be made by the professor or requested by the students. In fact, if you wish, you may ask other registered students to join you in the chatroom for discussion of various, course-related topics. These chats are purely voluntary and will be announced when needed or when requested by a student in the class. Chat sessions will normally last about an hour. The class chatroom is useful for interacting with the instructor and/or other students. If you need questions answered, or if you wish to discuss a topic, request a chatroom with the instructor. Personal issues that you do not wish to communicate to the entire class should be sent to me in an email, regular mail, or over the phone. Do not post personal messages in the chatroom.
