Shouting! is a spiritual story about the dance of the Holy Ghost. A little girl and her mama arrive at church one morning dressed in their Sunday best. As the choir is singing and the preacher is preaching, mama is over taken with the spirit. Throughout Shouting!, Joyce Carol Thomas uses a variety of religious vocabulary. She even quotes Deuteronomy 2:3. The beautiful oil on canvas illustrations by Annie Lee capture the true essence of the spiritual dance. The exuberant colors and the faceless people draw the reader’s attention. Thomas and Lee will leave the reader wanting the shout “Amen!” (Trade Book)
