Pig on the Titanic is a beautifully illustrated story about a musical pig, Maxixe, and her owner, Miss Edith, and their journey aboard the Titanic. The story, told from the perspective of Maxixe, recounts the actual events which occurred on the voyage. Maxixe explains all about the beautiful ship hitting an iceberg and sinking. She also tells of Miss Edith’s bravery and the courage of all the passengers. The author provides an endnote which explains the history behind the story. Bruce Whatley’s realistic illustrations are wonderful and strengthen the story! Gary Crew’s writing style is excellent. He is able to help children understand the events without using explicit facts that might scare little children. This would be a great asset to any classroom. (Trade Book)
