The Alphabet War is a wonderful story about a child, Adam, and his battle with the alphabet during his elementary school years. Adam who is a third grader is still struggling to learn the alphabet while the other children are reading, writing, and spelling.  Consequently, Adam falls into a make-believe world to escape his learning problems.  After being diagnosed with dyslexia and receiving special help, Adam learns to believe in himself and his abilities. This delicate subject is handled sensitively and appropriately.  Piazza use of pastels brings the story to life. (Trade Book)
