It is Halloween night, and Annie sneaks away to the old, haunted Montgomery mansion.  Her family warns her not to go, but Annie isn’t scared.  She was born on Halloween night, and nothing can stop her from going.  Krosoczka uses dark, ominous colors in the illustrations to create a shadowy effect that lends itself to the eerie tone of the story.  Suspense builds as Annie sees something out of the corner of her eye, “Was it a bat?”  She feels something tickle the back of her neck, “Was it a spider?”  When Annie reaches the old mansion, she hears whispers and fears the worst.  As she enters the haunted mansion, what will she discover?   (Trade Book)
