David Adler uses the main character in this book to deal with the poverty of the Great Depression from a young boy’s perspective. As he tries to help his family make ends meet, the young boy and his friend Jacob, sell newspapers outside Yankee Stadium where he gets the opportunity to meet Babe Ruth during the prime of Ruth’s career. The nostalgic acrylic illustrations do an excellent job of reflecting the time period in which the story took place. (Trade Book)
