Jenny Sweeney is excited about the annual 4th of July celebrations in her town. The book follows Jenny taking part in the activities throughout the day from the parade in the morning to the fireworks’ display at night. Cote uses her bright cartoon-like illustrations to show a diverse community working and playing together. The book stresses that we are all Americans and share a common love and kinship. The book is nicely done but the rhyming text at times seemed force. However, it is a nice addition to books which deal with Independence Day. The appendix contains information about the history of the holiday. (Trade Book)
