Robert Franklin Recipient of Award

Robert A. Franklin, Executive Producer and host of the radio public affairs program “LIKE IT IS” and station manager of KASU-FM has been named the recipient of the 2002 Generoso Pope Foundation Journalism Award.

Mr. Franklin stated that he was very honored and humbled by the award. He also said “it is encouraging and fulfilling as a journalist to be recognized by the Generoso Pope Foundation with such a prestigious award.

Franklin has been employed at KASU-FM since 1998 where he hosts the nationally syndicated and award-winning public affairs program, “LIKE IT IS”, winner of the 2001 International CINDY Award, the 2001 Arkansas Society of Professional Journalists Feature Award. Other recognitions include Franklin’s selection as a participant in Vanderbilt University’s 2002 fellowship program, The Silent Epidemic: Violence Against Women. In 2001, Franklin was chosen as a media fellow by Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) to participate in their fellowship program entitled Birmingham, Alabama: Exploring the Effects of Poverty, Racism and Violence in One American City. In 1995-96, Mr. Franklin was selected as a Joan Shorenstein Barone Congressional Fellow. The American Political Science Association (APSA) sponsored this congressional program. This fellowship is awarded to an outstanding broadcast journalist through an annual national competition.

Franklin has produced a radio documentary on the Elaine, Arkansas Race Riots of 1919. The production will be offered for broadcast to radio stations nationwide.
