Carlton Genealogy Heritage Recipe
Grandma Carlton's Dutch Pot Roast
This is Grandma Hazel Carlton's Pot Roast recipe as passed down from her great grandma VanBuskirk who immigrated to South Dakota from Holland in the 1840s. The only modification was Grandma Carlton's use of aluminum foil in the 1950s.
10 min. preparation, 2-2 1/2 hrs. cooking
beef roast (sirlion or chuck preferred)
salt
pepper
carrots
potatoes (baking preferred)
onions
1. set oven on 350 degrees
2. prepare roasting pan by lining with aluminum foil, placing rack on top of foil, and adding 1/2 in. water
3. place beef on rack and salt and pepper lightly
4. peel carrots, cut potatoes into halves or quarters, and cut onions into halves
5. surround roast with carrots, potatoes, and onions
6. seal top of pan with aluminum foil and place in oven until roast is done (usually 2-2 1/2 hrs.)
