MPT Application Process

Students wishing to gain admission to the Graduate Program in Physical Therapy at Arkansas State University will be required to hold a bachelor's degree and have completed certain prerequisite courses as: a) part of the bachelor's degree, or b) in addition to the bachelor's degree.

Please read the material below carefully.  There are two application processes required: the Graduate School Application Process and the Graduate Program in Physical Therapy Application Process.  These are two separate, but related processes.  Acceptance to the Graduate Program in Physical Therapy at Arkansas State University is conditional upon acceptance to the Arkansas State University Graduate School.

GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS

All students must be accepted into the Arkansas State University Graduate School. Graduate School acceptance does not imply, nor guarantee, admission into the professional master’s degree program in physical therapy.

  4. All science and math course work has been completed within seven (7) years of application.

  5. 6. The GRE general exam has been taken within the last two years and the GRE Writing Assessment has been taken within the last year with scores from both exams submitted to the ASU Graduate School and the Graduate Program in Physical Therapy.  All students applying to the MPT Program must take both of these exams and have their exam scores sent to the MPT Program before March 1 of the application year. Admission to the MPT program is on a competitive basis.  However, the program reserves the right to give admission preference to applicants who are: (1) resident ASU students followed by (2) Arkansas residents.

All admission documents will become the property of the Programs in Physical Therapy, College of Nursing and Health Professions and may not be returned, in any form, to the applicant or forwarded to other institutions.  Applicants are advised to retain copies of all materials sent in the application.

Applicants who have previously applied, but were not admitted and who wish to be reconsidered must file a new completed application packet. Applicants wishing to be reconsidered must submit official documents (not photocopies from a previous application process).

Students entering the professional programs of the College of Nursing and Health Professions are required to provide documentation of current CPR (adult, infant and child) training and Hepatitis B immune status before admission to the clinical phase of the particular program.  If the student is not immune to Hepatitis B, the hepatitis immunization series must be completed, unless formally declined. Further information concerning this and other requirements related to clinical education are given to admitted students at program orientation.

Students admitted into the Master of Physical Therapy Program are required to spend substantial time in clinical affiliations that are not on campus and may not be located in the immediate area.  Students admitted into the program must be willing to temporarily relocate, as needed, to the clinical affiliation assigned to them by the Director of Clinical Education (DOCE).  All costs of clinical education are the student’s responsibility.  Clinical assignments are determined by each student’s educational needs per faculty review and by availability of facilities.
