VISUAL RESOURCES CURATORIAL EXPERIENCE

Arkansas State University,  Jonesboro

    Responsible for circa 86,000 slides and circa 
    9,000 digital images covering [most to least] 
    paintings, sculpture, architecture, photography, 
    prints, graphic design, ceramics, drawings, 
    watercolors, jewelry and minor arts.    
    Responsible for 213 videotapes in art and art 
    history.  Revised Slide Numbering System and  
    completed cataloging of the slide collection. 
    Supervise one to four graduate and 
    undergraduate student assistants per    
    semester in copy work, input on computer,  
    mounting, masking and filing;  duties also 
    include reproducing images in digital format,      
    identifying by medium, artist with birth  
    and death dates, date (s) of  work, dimensions 
    and collection.  Manage and implement budget  
    for supplies, materials equipment and 
    acquisitions.  Utilize File Maker Pro,  Image 
    AXS and Adobe  Photoshop databases;     
    Microsoft Word and Final  Draft , MS-DOS 
    word-processing  programs.  Involved with web 
    development.  Our collection is multimedia.  
    French and German:  basic reading knowledge.

    Committee assignment for 1992-2008:  Budget, 
    Library, Gallery and Visiting Artist.  Have 
    arranged for the traveling show "Disfarmer" from 
    Arkansas Art Center for the Gallery, and public 
    lectures, "What Do Photographs Mean, if 
   Anything?" and "Photographs Photographed," by 
   visiting artist Bill Jay.

   Staff  (half-time, non-tenure track), thirty-four
   semesters, 1992-present.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Arkansas State University, Jonesboro.

   Have taught--in a classroom and on-line--graduate
   and upper division courses in Renaissance art,
   modern art and history of  photography, and
   undergraduate courses in survey of Renaissance 
   to modern art and sections of fine arts visual.

   Committee assignments for 1989-91:   
   International Film (Chair), Faculty Association 
   Handbook, Fine Art Wing (Co-Chair), Publicity, 
   Gallery and Visiting Artist.  Have arranged for 
   public talk by visiting artists Thomas F. Barrow 
   and Gary Monroe.

   Assistant Professor (full-time, tenure track), five 
   semesters or terms, 1989-91;  Assistant Professor
   (half-time, non-tenure track), eight semesters, 2003
   -present.

   Taught survey of photographic history with 
   personal slide collection.  Instructor, one quarter,

   Prepared and taught survey course in history of 
   photography.  Arranged for one guest lecture 
   each lecture by Beaumont Newhall.  Teaching

Princeton University Ph.D. program in art history, admitted 1977.

University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  Graduated with  high honors in liberal arts and with high distinction in art history, 1973.  First student in College of Liberal Arts ever admitted to Department of Architecture's year abroad program in Versailles, France.  Awarded competitive Illinois State Scholarship, 1968, renewed 1969-1972.

Two Governor's Awards, presented for article published in Illinois History, 1963-1964.

CURATORIAL EXPERIENCE

Arkansas State University Photography Gallery, Jonesboro.

   Solicited, selected, installed and publicized seven 
   exhibitions per year in university research library.  
   Have enlarged score of gallery from regional to 
   national.  Conceived, organized and prepared 
   "West of Eden" (1992), an exhibition of 
   twenty-four prints and photographs of  Yosemite 
   National Park.  Associate Director, 1989-90; 
   Director, 1990-91.

Ruth Ramberg Gallery, Albuquerque.

   Conceived, organized, prepared and installed 
   "West of Eden (1989), an exhibition of forty  
   prints and photographs of Yosemite National  
   Park.  Borrowed historical and contemporary 
   photographs from University of New Mexico 
   Fine Arts Library and William J. Lucas.  Wrote 
   statement and compiled check list.

University of New Mexico Art Museum, Albuquerque.

   Scheduled and organized exhibition of 
   photographs from permanent collection, 1981.
