BIOLOGY OF THE CELL - STUDY GUIDE FOR FINAL EXAM


The final exam will consist of multiple choice questions (Total points possible are 100 pts.). The following strategies should help you in studying for this exam.   The exam will be held in LSW 442 on May 2, 2008 from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm.  Please do everything within reason to take the exam at the appointed time and place.  

FINAL EXAM = (150 points are possible; Approximately 1/3 to material to be tested based on the most recent material covered in class and found in Chapters 19 & 20 of your textbook; Approximately 2/3 of the questions will cover material from the entire semester).

  • Review the outline given in the margin at the beginning of each chapter that we covered in the textbook (i.e., Alberts, Bray, Hopkin, Johnson, Lewis, Raff, Roberts, & Walter, 2004, published by Garland Science - Taylor & Francis Group).   Reading assignments AND Chapters that were covered in class are listed in the syllabus.  
  • Review the terms used within selected chapters of the textbook (i.e., Alberts, Bray, Hopkin, Johnson, Lewis, Raff, Roberts, & Walter, 2004, published by Garland Science - Taylor & Francis Group). 
  • Review the reading assignments AND Chapters from selected chapters in the textbook.  Pay special attention to words in BOLD print.   
  • Review the chapter summaries (i.e., Essential Concepts) of selected chapters in the textbook.
  • Review the key terms found at the end of selected chapters that we covered in the textbook.
  • Review the glossary at the end of the book (pages G1-G20) for terms and definitions.
  • Review your lecture notes and handouts from class. 
  • Review Course Notes to access on-line notes, powerpoint presentations, and other internet-based material by visiting http://www.clt.astate.edu/mhuss/biology_of_the_cell_lecture_course.htm.
  • Understand the information and processes represented in the figures, tables and panels in Chapters 1-7, 11-14, and 19-20 of the textbook.
You also have a good opportunity to drop by my office to ask me questions and to look at the answer keys and copies of the first three lecture exams.  I will be available in my office (LSE 317) at the following times.    
  • Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am AND 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
  • Thursday, May 1 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am AND 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

REMINDER: I cannot give grades out to students over the phone or via email or to third parties without your expressed written and signed consent.  I will officially report final grades as soon as these are available.
