EXERCISE 27: FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY OF THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM
On models be able to locate: the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, pineal
gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, and gonads.
Microscope slides: be able to recognize the pancreatic islets and thyroid
gland.
For the following hormones, be able to tell what they do, and what endocrine
gland produces them.
Posterior pituitary: Antidiuretic hormone and oxytocin
Anterior pituitary: Growth hormone, prolactin, follicle stimulating
hormone, luteinizing hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone,
adrenocorticotropic hormone.
Pineal gland: melatonin
Thyroid gland: T3 and T4 and calcitonin
Parathyroid gland: parathyroid hormone
Adrenal glands: aldosterone (mineralocorticoid), cortisone (glucocorticoid),
androgens (gonadocorticoids)
Pancreas: insulin and glucagon
Gonads: female: estrogen and progesterone; male : testosterone
