of Music Education
This degree is for those

for solo performances in
a master class situation
as well as small ensemble
rehearsal and

Wind
Ensemble
The University
Wind Ensemble includes
the most accomplished
wind and percussion
players on the ASU
campus.
The group performs
approximately fifteen
times per year, including
five on-campus concerts
and a spring tour.
The
Wind ensemble utilizes
the player pool concept,
performing a wide variety
of repertoire ranging
from wind octet to full
concert band.
Quality and
innovative programming
highlight the performance
schedule, and the Wind
ensemble’s flexibility
provides players with
varied musical challenges
and experiences.
The
Wind Ensemble has
recorded three CD’s,
including a live
performance at the
College Band Directors’
National conference in
Kansas City with guest
conductor Karel Husa.
Symphonic
Band
The Symphonic Band
provides a quality
concert experience to
interested campus
musicians. During the
spring semester, the
Symphonic Band plays two
concerts and travels to
area high schools on a
one-day tour. Membership
is open to all interested
musicians with previous
band experience.
Tribe
– Jazz Band

premier jazz ensemble,
representing the finest
jazz musicians on campus.

auditions held at the
beginning of each
semester. The Tribe
presents two concerts per

jazz festivals in the
spring. The Tribe has
presented concerts
featuring guests artists
such as Bobby Shew,
Marvin Stamm, Ed
Soph and Bob Mintzer.

Band
The 150-member
Marching Indians provide
excitement and spirit to
ASU football games. The
Marching Indians
entertain crowds at
halftime with innovative
marching shows, and

during and after the
game. In addition, the
band performs at several
marching contest
exhibitions, and a least
one out-of-town football
game per season.

interested musicians.
Members of the flag and
majorette lines are
selected by auditions in
April.
Jazz
Lab Band

provides an outlet for
jazz musicians with less
experience, or those with
a desire to learn the
style. It meets one
afternoon a week, and is
open to all interested
musicians. The Jazz Lab
Band performs at two
concerts per semester,
usually in conjunction
with the Tribe.
Several
ASU single reed students
have had the opportunity
to perform with Mr. Hatch
in the Arkansas
Symphony Orchestra.
Professional
performance experience at
this level cannot be
overestimated.
