Familiarize yourself with the course web site -- identify what
information and resources are available and how to access these.
Read the syllabus and prepare to discuss in class any questions
and/or concerns you have about the course.

Fill out the "Student Information
Questionnaire", available through the Miscellaneous page of
the course web site.
Obtain a copy of the text and the study
guide. Read the first
chapter in the text and be sure to look over the Review Questions, especially questions
8-11, at the end of the chapter. In addition, work through the corresponding
material in the study guide. In addition, from Chapter 11, read the section about the economic order
quantity (starting on page 406) work exercises 8(a), 11(a), and 17(a). Note also the
sample problem on page 415.
Use your own (not your spouse's,
family's, etc.) email account to inform me of your name and email
address. The subject line should be First QM 3523
E-Mail. If you don't already have an email address (e.g.,
jseydel@cherokee.astate.edu), obtain one immediately
from HotMail, Yahoo, Juno, or any other commercial provider. This
is to be done by the beginning of class and
will count 15 points as your first homework quiz score.
- Print a copy of the handout "Data Analysis Exercise #1,"
available through the Handouts page at the course web site, and read
through it. Familiarize yourself with the data and calculate the average, median,
and standard deviation of the variable Salary. In addition, draw a relative
frequency histogram for that variable; use frequency groupings of 20.1-25.0, 25.1-30.0,
etc. and be sure to label the chart appropriately. Review your Statistics notes as
necessary.
- Prepare for the first homework quiz, which will count a total of 20 points,
half of which will result from your successful completion of the email assignment
indicated above.
