POSC 3423: American Political Theory. This course focuses on the idea of political community and, in particular, on the contributions of three traditions important to American moral and political life – Christianity, republicanism, (note the small r) and liberalism – to the political health of the United States. Professor Fiona Miller.

POSC 4453: Analysis of Contemporary Political Theory. How far should liberal democracies go to accommodate sub- national groups within their borders? Why should liberal democracies tolerate cultural differences or diversity? What are the limits to that tolerance? We will explore these questions in three steps. First we will consider theories of identity and multiculturalism in order to understand the demands and promises of sub-national groups. Second, we will consider three critiques of multiculturalism. Third, we will put the multiculturalists and their critics into dialogue with one another in an attempt to answer our guiding questions. Dr. Fiona Miller.
