Classes

Classroom Policies

  • The last day to drop classes Fall 2008 semester is November 19 (September 1 to avoid all fees).
  • Students who have not attended by the eleventh day of classes will be automatically withdrawn.
  • Students with disabilities who require accommodations for access and participation in this course should register with the Office of Disability Services, 972-3964.
Attendance and Makeup Assigments
  • Attendance: Attendance will be taken. Six or more unexcused absences may adversely affect a student's grade. Students who miss a third of the scheduled meetings will automatically fail. (See Student Handbook "Class Attendance Policy.”)
  • Absence: Valid excuses for absence include (but are not limited to) illness, family and personal emergency, and university sponsored activities; valid excuses should also be documented (doctor’s note, court orders, event program, etc.). Whenever possible students should provide advanced notice of absence.
  • Makeup Assignments: All assignments will be available on the course website. In the event that a student misses an exam or assignment due to an excused absence a makeup exam or assignment will be made available. All assignments must be made up within week of the original deadline.
  • Submitting Assignments Late: Any major assignment submitted late without an excuse will be penalized one-third of a letter grade for each day that it is overdue. Minor assignments will not be accepted late.

Internet
  • Website: Information regarding this class will be posted regularly; any handouts will be available there as well. You will held responsible for any and all information regarding the class that is on the website. Some of the materials for this class will be made available through the internet. Links to assignments and non copywrited handouts will appear in the course webpage. Check there BEFORE you ask me for materials.
  • Access: I realize that some of you have limitied access to computers and the internet. Your community might provide access to computers at cafés and public libraries. ASU provides computer and internet access at several facilities around campus; a complete list can be found at the ITS [Computer] Lab Information Page.
  • Submitting Assignments Electronically: If you submit an assignment to me via email, it is your responsibility to make certain that I have received it by its due date. The best way to do this is to submit the assignment using the submit homework tab on your class website.

Honor Policies
  • Academic Dishonesty: Any instance of academic dishonesty will be punished to the fullest measure. See the Student Handbook “Academic Integrity”.
  • Classroom Behavior: Ringing cellphones, aggressive behavior toward faculty and students, or other disruptive behavior will not be tolerated under any circumstances. (See Student Handbook "Code of Conduct.")

Protecting Your Privacy

FERPA is a federal regulation designed to protect your privacy. It makes it illegal for me (or any of your professors) to discuss your grades with anyone but you. As a result it is illegal for me to post your grades anywhere that is public or unsecured. It is also illegal for me to discuss your grades unless I verify your identity. This means I cannot discuss your grades with you over the phone under any circumstances. I also cannot discuss your grades with you via email unless you give me express permission. If you would like to give me such permission please fill out and submit the form below. If you submit this form I will request your signature to verify this in class. (This means that if you wait until the end of the semester to submit the form I may not be able to honor your request.)
