2009 SUMMER II – DAILY SCHEDULE FOR SEMESTER

I will follow this schedule very closely. If I see that changes need to be made, you will be informed.

NOTE: The order that the material is presented in this schedule follows the textbook order – in my opinion some items are misplaced in the text, no text is perfect, - punk for instance should be mentioned before Alternative Styles. However, to keep it simple, we will follow the textbook order with a few exceptions, such as the short audiocast on Girl Groups – I feel that the book is in error to exclude a few paragraphs on these great singers and songs.

MON JULY 6

Classes Begin – LISTEN TO AUDIOCAST #1 – INTRO REMARKS - AND complete Forum #1 'Introduce yourself' . note: Audiocasts are on the Discussion Board, just scroll down for the one you need.

The complete audiocast list + lyrics can be found under the the Links Page. When listening to a music audiocast on Discussion Board pull up another browser from your Start Button menu and load Blackboard and get the lyrics up to accompany the audiocast. This will be very helpful when you start analyzing for form.

Read: Concepts, Terms, & Definitions – This info is not in your text – the link to this page is found under the Assignments Tab – or by clicking HERE. Print out this information. You are responsible for all vocabulary except the instruments of the orchestra. I will explain and illustrate the terms etc., as we go along in the Forum Discussions. You should read your classmate's posts on Blackboard and determine who is writing good posts. You can tell this easily by the titles of my responses to good posts such as ‘Great Post!’ etc.

FRIDAY JULY 10 = QUIZ #1 TODAY - -get the answers from the Concepts List - click here if you don't have them yet.

FIRST Bb QUIZ – Covers all Concepts, Terms & Definitions – Multiple choice format.

Exam will be posted by 10 a.m. today and must be submitted before 10 p.m. this evening. You may submit the exam and then after seeing your score/grade, you may attempt the exam again (AND ALL OTHER EXAMS). In other words, Multiple Attempts may be made until you get the grade where you want it. The exams might be thought of as a Work Book procedure. Reading, looking up the answers and moving back and forth between the test and the text is more productive than 'cramming'. There will be no makeups - I am being lenient, enough. Prepare, open the exam and work to completion using the book - submit your completed exam, consider your grade and whether you wish to retake the exam. Your last attempt is the grade of record.
