JONESBORO AND NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
Located approximately 70 miles across the flat and fertile Mississippi River bottom lands
to the northwest of Memphis, Tennessee, Jonesboro is nestled in the rolling, wooded
foothills of Crowleys Ridge. It is also the largest city (population 51,000) in
Northeastern Arkansas.
CLIMATE
Average daytime temperatures in the Jonesboro area in early November are between 60-70o
F. However, conditions are quite variable from day to day at that time of year, with
temperatures possibly being as much as 15 - 20 degrees warmer or colder.
TRANSPORTATION
Airline - Memphis International Airport is approximately 1 hour and 15
minutes from Jonesboro, and is a major hub for Northwest Airlines. Continental, KLM, and
Northwest Airlines are the official airlines for the RRF Meeting and will offer a discount
to attendees on all published fares. Attendees can obtain this discount from their own
travel agent or directly from the Northwest/KLM/Continental Meeting Services Reservations
Desk (800-328-1111). The best discount is offered if reservations are made 60 days before
departure. The WorldFile number used to obtain this discount is NMRB7.
Airport Transfer Service - A special ASU-RRF Shuttle will be provided by the local committee at a cost of $20.00 (one way) from Memphis International Airport to the Holiday Inn. Reservations must be made at least 24 hr in advance. Call the Dept. of Biological Sciences (870-972-3082), Arkansas State University and ask to schedule a shuttle from the Memphis Airport to the RRF meeting. Return shuttle services will also be provided.
Transfer Service is also provided by Sonrise Shuttle Services (800-262-2630). Cost is $28.00 from Memphis International Airport to the Holiday Inn in Jonesboro. Round trip cost is $53.00. Reservations must be made 24 hr in advance. Rental cars are available at the airport.
Bus - Greyhound Bus Lines serves Jonesboro to a station located at 3915 E. Nettleton, 2.3 miles from the Jonesboro Holiday Inn.
Automobile - From the north use I-55, exit on Hwy 18 at Blytheville and proceed west to Jonesboro. From the east use I-40, exit on Hwy 63 and proceed northwest to Jonesboro. From the west use I-40, exit on Hwy 64 at Conway and proceed east to Hwy 67 (Beebe, AR), take Hwy 67 to Hwy 14 and proceed east, then turn north on Hwy 49, in Jonesboro turn right (east) on Hwy 63. From the northwest use Hwy 63 from southern Missouri. The Holiday Inn is located at the Caraway Road exit off Hwy 63.
LODGING
The Jonesboro Holiday Inn, at 3006 South Caraway Road, is the official lodging site for
the RRF meeting. A special rate of $58.00/night is available to meeting participants for
up to four persons per room. Participants are responsible for making their own
reservations ( Phone 800-465-4329 or 870-935-2030). To receive the special rate, mention
that you are attending the RRF meeting, and make reservations before 31 October 2000.
PARKING
Free parking is available in the lots of the Jonesboro Holiday Inn.

Awards Banquet; This years awards banquet promises to be an unique experience. It
will be culturally stimulating, historically enlightening, and yes, even provide an
opportunity for some wildlife observation. This is because the banquet will be held on a
triple-deck, heated Mark Twain-era style packetboat, as it travels up (and down) the
mighty Mississippi River. Come join us for a dusk cocktail hour as the Memphis Queen III
glides along Ol man River past forested riverine habitat. This will be followed by a
three entree buffet dinner, awards ceremony, and entertainment from a genuine Memphis
Dixieland jazz band as we peruse the impressive nighttime Memphis skyline. Busses will
transport banquet-goers from Jonesboro to the Memphis docks, leaving at approximately 2:30
pm and returning by 10:00 pm. All for only $45.00.
