 | Staff offices for the Heritage Studies Ph.D. Program have relocated to Suite 706 on the 7th floor of the Dean B. Ellis Library.
The mailing address, telephone number and
email addresses for Heritage Studies Ph.D. Program will remain the same. |

Arkansas State University remembers tragedy
of September 11, 2001
 |
During the week of September 11, a
commemorative booth was raised in the lobby of the Dean B. Ellis Library which
listed all
3000+ names of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorists
attacks on the United States. There was also a television on display
with constant footage of the actual events as they took place on September 11,
2001. In addition to the memorial at the library, services were held at
the Carl R. Reng Center during the noon hour and a candlelight service was held on the
library lawn at 7:30pm. |

Arkansas Folklife Program Conference
September 20, 2002

"Toward an Arkansas Folklife Program"
was
the focus for a one-day conference which was held in the Carl R. Reng Center on
the Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro on Friday, September 20,
2002. |

Dr. Deborah Chappel, associate professor of English in
the College of Arts and Sciences at Arkansas State University, and
Instructor for the Heritage Studies Ph.D. Program core course "Concepts
of Culture", was recently recognized at the annual Honors Banquet. |

at Hendrix College in Conway, AR

Dr. Clyde Milner II, Director of Heritage
Studies Ph.D. Program and Terry Johnson, Secretary, participated in the
graduate expo at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, on Thursday, September
19, 2002. More than 30 schools were represented at the
expo. |

Heritage Studies Staff attends Grad
Expo/Job Fair at A.S.U.

Dr. Clyde Milner II, Director of Heritage
Studies Ph.D. Program and Terry Thomas-Johnson, Secretary, participated in the
graduate expo/Job Fair at the Convocation Center on the Arkansas State
University campus. The Expo was held on Wednesday, October 9, 2002,
and more than 200 local and regional businesses, along with various graduate
schools were represented at the
expo. |
ASU Delta Studies
Center participates in Forum: Remembering Rising Tide: How the Flood
that Changed America Changed Arkansas.
 | The forum was held on Saturday, November 9, 2002,
at the Ritz Civic Center, at Blytheville, Arkansas and focused on the great Mississippi
Flood of 1927. |

 | Dr. Brady Banta, Interim Director and Terry Thomas-Johnson,
Secretary, attended the "Delta" African-American Heritage
Tourism Planning Forum sponsored by ASU-Delta Studies Center, Ms. Peggy
Wright-Robinson. The forum was held at the ASU Carl R. Reng Center
on Thursday, May 23, 2002. |
 | This forum was the second of three forums made possible by grant
funding to ASU-Delta Studies Center through the Asset Building and
Community Development Program funded by the Ford Foundation. |
