Julia Lansford

Julia Lansford, associate professor in music, began her teaching career at Arkansas State University in 1964. She received a BME from Arkansas State College and a MM in vocal performance from North Texas State University with post-graduate studies in Freiburg, Germany. Along with a successful vocal studio, she serves as director of opera and vocal coordinator of vocal studies within the department of music.

Many students from her studio have been winners of numerous vocal competitions and accepted for graduate studies in major universities. While some students have followed the path of choral directing and have maintained outstanding choirs, others have chosen professional careers in opera and musical theatre.

As a solo performer, Mrs. Lansford has performed recitals throughout the United States and has been a frequent soloist with orchestras in both oratorio and operatic repertoire. She has sung leading roles with Memphis Opera Theater, Arkansas Opera Theater, American Opera Company in New York and the Summer Vocal Institute in Germany. As Outstanding Performer of Arkansas, she performed at The Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and was chosen to sing at The White House for President Clinton and the Prime Minister of Ireland.
