

As a member of the ASU voice faculty, Dr. Julien has taught private voice and numerous voice-related classes. In addition he has directed the ASU Women’s Choir and has been Co-director of the ASU Opera Theater. Several of his students have distinguished themselves by first-place rankings in the National Association of Teachers of Singing vocal competitions, and have won honors at the Metropolitan Opera Arkansas State Auditions.
Dr. Julien serves as the faculty Coordinator of Music History and has taught most of the undergraduate and graduate music history courses for the past twenty-five years. In 2006/2007 he privately published NOTES ON THE EVOLUTION OF MUSICAL STYLE, a textbook which contains extensive notes, listening guides, and study guides dedicated to teaching the essential skills of stylistic analysis.
Since 1986 Dr. Julien has been Director of the ASU RINGERS, a handbell ensemble open to both music majors and non music majors. The ASU RINGERS regularly present between six and ten formal concerts each semester and have toured extensively throughout the Mid South and the Mid West.
Since 1977 he has served the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Jonesboro as Director of Music Ministry functioning as cantor, choirmaster, and organist. In March of 2007 he conducted a parish pilgrimage tour of Italy and directed his schola cantorum for Eucharistic celebrations in the major basilicas of Rome, Assisi, Florence, and Venice.
