In the great city of St Petersburg, Rasputin is called a "Mad Monk". They say he opposes anti-Semitism and corruption. They say he argues against brutal oppression of common people by tyrants. He opposes war. The say he makes prophesies which faithfully reveal the future. These are not the actions of a sane person. Yes, they say, he must be mad. Only the devil himself could make all of his prophesies come to pass. They say he is a lecherous mad man who must not be trusted. Finally, someone said "We must assassinate this mad man to protect our virtuous way of life".
