SR Koehler devised this experiment which was published in Lalanne's Treatise on Etching. 1880. This is an interesting test plate experiment for etching the way it used to be done. Much has changed since that time. |

This site was designed by Professor Debra Satterfield about 1995. It is a fantasy in the form of a visual travelogue based upon a set of 20 original engravings which create a story without words. The series of prints was intended to inspire a storyteller's inventive imagination to spin tales of adventure. At the end of the travelogue, there is a brief version of my biography and a description of the burin engraving process which I used to create the prints. |

| The ornamental heading is 4.9 X 2.3 inches (125 X 57 mm) in JPEG format, 300 dpi. It is an example of my "Ornamental Penmanship", reminiscent of "Copperplate" script traditionally used by engravers. I'm making it available for free use by any printmaker or art gallery who would like to use it. The JPEG file is 158 kb. After opening the image, you may save it to your disk and paste it into a document. |

| The heading was written with a modern Leonardt Principal nib in a Zanerian oblique 8-inch penholder made in 1926. The ink was Walker's Copperplate Script Ink which I have modified by occasionally adding a few drops of tap water and black sumi ink ground from a vintage stick of Japanese ink (made about 1950). The original bottle of ink was brewed by Brian G. Walker in 2004. I've kept the bottle going for many months by adding the water and sumi. The image was scanned, then cleaned up in Adobe Photoshop. |
