- Dolly/Dali in three dimensions
- Photo made November 28, 2004
|
- This is a stereo photograph.

| One way to see this photograph is by "free viewing" it. You can free view either directly on your screen or from a printed copy. Either way, the width of this image should be 6 inches (152 mm) or less. |
| Try this free viewing method: Put your eyes very close to the two images onscreen (about 3 or 4 inches), then slowly back away. Let each eye line up on one image. When you see three images, ignore the side ones and concentrate on the image in the center. It will be the solid 3-D image. |
|
| Another way to see Dolly/Dali in three dimensions is to save the image to your disk. Adjust the image size (if necessary) and print it about 6 inches wide on an inkjet printer. |
| A printed "stereo view" may be viewed with an antique stereo viewer, called a "stereoscope" -- sometimes referred to as a "stereopticon". |

- The stereo photo at left is framed in a mount similar to the "Holmes" stereoview cards of the 19th century.
- The image looks like an old dustmop or a pile of rags when seen in 2 dimensions. However, the image is much different when you see it as solid forms in space, or 3-D.
- To see this framed image in stereo, the width of the image area (i.e., left and right images combined) should be 6 inches or less. If printed on paper for use with a stereoscope, the frame (the gray area) should be about 7 inches wide, making the width across both images about 6 inches..
