Résumé Selected information
19th century Swedish copybook

This copybook was handwritten by a writing tutor in Wirestad Sweden, dated 1858. My great grandfather and his family learned to write by following the model forms in this book.

Leitz Stereoly attachment for Leica Camera

During the 1930s, Ernst Leitz in Wetzlar, Germany produced the Leica "Stereoly" attachment to enable the Leica camera to make stereo photographs. Today, a Stereoly is a rare object.

• How to clean and adjust prisms of a Stereoly.
• How to adapt a 1931 Leica Stereoly to fit a 2004 digital camera for "instant" 3-D photographs.
• Read and download the original 8-page Leitz Stereoly instruction manual (1934) in English.
• How to look at stereo views and see them in 3 dimensions.

My Sterero Views
Stereo photographs made with the rare old Leica Stereoly attached to a digital camera. New galleries are created to display the latest stereo views. (Currently showing more than 60 photos, mostly in the familiar old Holmes-style mounts.)

How to Make Permanent Gallotannate Ink

This type of ink has been used since the 12th century until recently. Five pages with dozens of old descriptions, recipes, and notes. Links to other websites with information about old inks.
On Page 3 of the site, you can download "pdf" files of 3 important old ink articles:
  • Dr. Ure’s Dictionary of Arts, Manufactures and Mines (1853)
  • Two articles on "Ink" and "Writing Fluids" from Cooley's Cyclopaedia of Practical Receipts (1856)
The fifth page of this Ink site is a long Appendix packed full of important information about Testing, Dyes, and Literature. I've selected these items from a circular published by the US National Bureau of Standards in 1936

How to mount a Zanerian Fine-Writer to an Esterbrook pen A nutty idea for combining a very flexible vintage pen nib with a vintage fountain pen. Well, it works for me -- I like to draw in a sketchbook with it. Maybe you might find it useful too. There are also some recommended links for more information about pointed pens, how to use them, and their history.

Ink, Paper and Lines Download ruled stationery for pen-and-ink. I supply the page layout, you supply the paper and printing. Handy device to rule lines on envelopes, certificates, etc. Ink converter for a modern cartridge-filler pen. Oblique penholder stabilizer. A few important links.

  • Adventure with EL (Also see below)

Adventure with EL
This site was designed by Professor Debra Satterfield and her students about 1995. It's a fantasy in the form of a visual travelogue. It is based upon a set of 20 original engravings which create a story without words. Adventure with EL is inspiration for a storyteller's inventive imagination to spin tales of adventure. This is all for fun, so practice spinning your own tall tales.
It includes a brief version of my résumé and
Description of the burin engraving process which I used to create the prints.
