The Mission of the Delta Studies Center is to confirm Arkansas State University as the lead university in studying, celebrating, and developing, the Lower Mississippi River Delta.

Recognizing the role it should play in the Delta, the university established the Delta Studies Center in 1994 to focus and direct university resources towards Delta Initiatives.  It supports interdisciplinary studies, research programs, outreach activities, and community partnerships directed towards the people, culture, heritage, and biological and physical environments of the Delta.  Through forums, conferences, internships, and fellowships that gather, organize, disseminate and employ information and knowledge, the Center serves the Delta by preserving the past, enriching the present, and shaping the future.
