To provide a description of a project funded by USDA - SARE (Southern Region) to support the development of sustainable swine enterprises for limited-resource farmers in the Mississippi Delta. Vist the SARE website to learn more about their programs.

2. To provide general and technical information about alternative methods of producing pork.

Project Information:

bullet Project Overview:

This project is a cooperative effort between a non-profit organization (ALFDC) and a non-land grant university (ASU) to provide technical and financial assistance to limited-resource farmers interested in adopting a low-capital, sustainable method of swine production. This project features demonstration farms located in six counties of the mid-delta region of eastern Arkansas. Farms are being operated by both the ALFDC and by paraprofessional farmers involved in the project. The primary purposes of the these farms is to provide income for the paraprofessional farms, generate production and economic data from various locations, and to serve as demonstration sites for educational programs.
