Chapter 3 - Feedstuffs Used in Livestock Diets
There are a lot of different feeds discussed in this chapter, and unless you
are exceptional, you will not remember every detail about every feed.
However, it is important that you be able to classify the feeds based on their
nutrient content (high or low). Also, you should know why and when certain
feeds are used in animal diets. The more common feeds are presented in
chapter 3, but there are many more. Try to have a working knowledge of the
more common feeds. For the less, common ones, if questions arise about
their use, always do some research before using them in a diet.

- Identify desirable and undesirable characteristics of feed.
- Discuss various feeding milling processes.
- Discuss how stage of plant maturity influences nutritional value to the
animal.
- Discuss harvesting, storing and processing techniques available for
various feeds.
- Identify important factors regulating feed intake by animals.
