I WILL PERIODICALLY SEND YOU INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT YOU MIGHT GET ON THE WEB. We will not have any scheduled meeting times, though the ASU web site notes a meeting time on Tuesday night. Please complete the homework assignments and send them to me as an email attachment. Any time you have a question, please ask. It is imperative you stay in contact with me via my email. I check my email everyday. If you have any problems, please let me know. This is a stepping stone to your MBA and I want you to be successful. I intend to do everything possible to insure your success. Communication is essential. This only lasts 7 weeks so time is of the essence. REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS Survey of Accounting, third edition, written by Warren, published by Thomson. COURSE DESCRIPTION This module is a study of Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting. This module is designed for students who do not have a background in Accounting. The focus will be on how accounting is an information system that produces accounting reports that are used by managers, investors, creditors, and other organizational stakeholders to make decisions about the company. COURSE GOAL AND OBJECTIVES The goal of this course is to teach students with a non-business background about financial accounting and managerial accounting. Each chapter we cover contains a detailed listing of the objectives for each chapter. Plan to study these objectives very carefully. Begin and end each chapter with coverage of the stated objectives. COURSE POLICIES We will cover the equivalent of six semester hours in 7 weeks. Because of the intensive nature of the coverage, you must prepare yourself to work at a pace that will enable you to complete all the homework and both tests in a seven week period.
COURSE GRADING IMPORTANT NOTE: YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL HOMEWORK AND BOTH TESTS BEFORE OCTOBER 10, 2006. Your final grade in this module will be determined based on: TWO TESTS (100 EACH) 200 HOMEWORK PROBLEMS 50 WRITING ASSIGNMENTS 50 TOTAL 300 A SCALE OF 90%, 80%, 70%, 60% WILL BE USED TO ASSIGN FINAL GRADES OF A, B, C AND D. TESTS: One test will cover Financial Accounting and one test will cover Managerial Accounting. The tests may contain true/false, multiple choice, short-answer, definitions, or essay. You will need to make arrangements with your local proctor to schedule each of the tests. HOMEWORK PROBLEMS: Homework problems are identified on the schedule that follows. WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: Each writing assignment will be graded for content and grammatical accuracy. Complete the written assignments using some type of word-processing software such as Microsoft word. Please use a 10 or 12 pt font for all the assignments.
