Experience International Travel for Credit

 

The College of Agriculture as of Spring 2006 can now provide students with the opportunity to gain international travel experience, and receive credit and meet a requirement in the College core.  The course is:   

AGED  5473  International Agri Study Tour:   The development of awareness toward international agricultural enterprises and educational programs and how world agricultural systems relate to and impact the U.S agricultural system.  Includes a focus on environmental issues related to food and fiber production.

FAQ

    How does this count as a COA core requirement?
    T here is an option in the COA Core to take an Ag ED course. This travel experience will meet that expectation of that requirement.

    Where will I travel to?  That depends but the most likely places are in Central America for now (i.e. Costa Rica).

    How much does it cost?   That depends on where we go.  But the expected cost should be between 1300 to 2000 on top of tuition.

   How will I be graded?   If you are an undergraduate student you will:   

               
A.
      Make an  Individual presentation to a group on campus (Power Point Preferred)  
                B.
      Present to a school or community group  (Power Point Preferred)  
                C.
      Submit you personal journal/travel log  
                D.
     
Write six page report on the agricultural resources of destination country.

    What if I want to take it for graduate credit?  
If you are a graduate student you will do A, B, C from above and  write a more details report on the Comparison and Contrast of U.S. and destination country’s agricultural resources.    

  What will we do as part of the class?   We will visit several farms/plantations including livestock & swine farms, banana, coffee, & sugar plantation & cooperative, butterfly farm, Botanical Gardens, an Agricultural Research Facilities CATIE,  Livestock school of Central America,  two high School Agricultural programs,  University of Costa Rica, College of Agriculture, and see Rainforest and stop along the way to see sites, i.e. volcano, water falls, etc. 

   Other than money and enrolled in ASU what do I need?  Valid U.S. Passport, Depending on destination you may need to take shots.
