I have been a member of the Philadelphia Fire Department for
over 20 years. The Department is located North of the Jonesboro city limits in
the Philadelphia community. The Fire Department was started by a group of men
that wanted to help lower the Insurance rates in their community. Within a few
years the Insurance rating dropped from a Class 10 to a Class 7 rating. This
resulted in a substantial savings in Insurance payments to the residents of the
Community. The Department has Mutual Aid agreements with several of the Fire
Departments in the County including the Jonesboro Fire Department. The fire
scene on the home page is of the Barton Lumber Company fire in 1977. This was
the first large fire I attended. There have been many fires since. We are a
totally Volunteer Department and meet each Thursday night at 7:00 pm. If you
