Overview

CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST (CLS) have knowledge of the pathophysiologic basis for laboratory testing, laboratory administration and educational gain through professional education. They developed procedures for and perform all test provided by the clinical laboratory. CLS evaluate test results and correlate them with other laboratory data based on knowledge of instrumentation, clinical significance, and methodologies. They synthesize corrective strategies for unexpected results or events. CLS’s select appropriate calculations when not previously specified. They established quality assurance, quality control, and safety procedures.

Course Requirements
Four-Year Course Guide

Classes for the CLS-BS students begin in the fall semester and continue for forty-eight consecutive months.  The CLS students will be required to complete four summer semesters in order to complete the required five clinical rotations.  The clinical affiliates are located in Northeast Arkansas, Southeast Missouri, and Western Tennessee.  Students must provide their own transportation to the clinical affiliates.  When determining the educational costs, this additional expense must be included.

Other expenses which should be considered when determining educational expenses include the cost of uniforms which will vary according to your selection; the cost of the hepatitis vaccine; cost of safety glasses and an OSHA approved laboratory coat for student laboratories; and the cost of textbooks and course/laboratory manuals.

Students entering the professional programs of the College of Nursing and Health Professions are required to provide documentation of their Hepatitis B vaccination status before admission to the clinical phase of the particular program.
