Q.        Who is eligible to apply for this program?

 

A.      Any individual who has completed an AS or AAS degree in a CLT/MLT Program and who is eligible for national certification or state licensure is encouraged to consider this program and apply for admission.

 

Q.        Do I need to be certified by ASCP, NCA, or a state licensure board before I can be admitted to this program?

 

A.      NO.  Applicants are encouraged to achieve certification prior to admission.  Such certification may enhance admission in to the program and is considered as a positive indicator of potential success in reaching the BS degree and certification as CLS/MT.

 

Q.        How can I apply for admission?

          After admission to the University, you can then apply for admission to the Clinical Laboratory Science Articulation Program.  Those applications may be obtained by writing to the Clinical Laboratory Science Program, Arkansas State University (Jonesboro), P. Q.        Are the CLS programs at ASU accredited?

 

A.      Yes!  Both CLS programs at ASU are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) located at 8410 W. Q.        Do I have to pay out-of-state tuition?

 

A.      ASU extends in-state tuition rates to those individuals who live within a limited radius of the University.  This policy applies to the Tennessee counties of Shelby, Tipton, Dyer, Fayette, Haywood, Lake, Lauderdale and Obion; Missouri counties of Butler, Carter, Dunklin, Howell, New Madrid, Oregon, Pemmiscott, Ripley, Scott, and Stoddard; Mississippi counties of DeSoto and Tunica..

 

Q.        How much is the per credit hour tuition at ASU?

 

A.      The 2005-06 undergraduate tuition per credit hour is $142.00.  There are additional required fees.  To view a complete fee schedule got to: http://studentaccounts.astate.edu/sastuetion.htm.

 

Q.        Will I be required to repeat my Clinical rotations?

 

A.      No!  You are required to only enroll in one additional Clinical Practicum, which will be a management experience.  You may elect to do this rotation at a clinical affiliate other than your workplace.  If we can arrange it, we will work with your employer to permit the clinical practicum there.  This would be time OUTSIDE of your usual work hours.

 

Q.        Do I need to be a full time student?

 

A.      No. This program accommodates part-time student status during any semester or summer session.

 

Q.        Is there a time limit for completion of the program?

 

A.      No.  You may progress at your own pace.

 

Q.        How long will the program take to complete if I chose to be a full time student?

 

A.      Variable, depending on your general education and pre-requisite course status.  It could take as little as three semesters.  Each student’s degree plan is customized for them and their circumstances.

 

Q.        Will any of my college course work transfer to ASU and be accepted toward this degree?

 

A.      Evaluation of each applicant’s transcript is required by the Office of Admissions and by the CLS Programs faculty.

 

Q.        Will I need to travel to Jonesboro to take CLS classes?

 

A.      The CLS program courses are being developed for distant learning using computer internet web sites.  As these courses “go on line”, they would be available on your home computer.
