Common Name:  Blind loach (E).
Etymology:  smithi (L) after Anthony Smith who collected the first specimens.
Major Synonyms:  Noemacheilus smithi (original description) (Nalbant & Bianco 1998).
History:  First collected in April 1976.

Distribution:  Iran: Lorestan (Khorramabad) province. Zagros mountains: Ab-i-Serum Valley near Tang-e-haft railway station: Baq-e-Loveh Oasis: a natural well at Kaaje-Ru (33o 05' N, 48o 36' E) (for full locality description see Coad 1996).

   
Habitat and Ecology:  The well-like water resurgence in which it has been found seems to be the result of a collapsed subterranean system. This is probably part of a larger but complex, narrow, and inaccessible network of underground waters. Syntopic with Iranocypris typhlops.   Food and Feeding:  No information available.
