Caecogobius cryptophthalmus Berti & Ercolini, 1991

Etymology: 
caeco (L) blind; gobius (L) for its relationship to species of the genus Gobius; crypto (L) hidden; ophthalmus (L) eyes.

History: 
The first four specimens were collected by members of the Federazione Speleologica Veneta in January and February 1987.
