STUDY GUIDE FOR EXAM #1 (SURVEY OF ART HISTORY)

Exam #1 will be over Chapter 1 (Art before History), Chapter 2 (The Ancient Near East), and Chapter 3 (Egypt under the Pharaohs). The exam will have the following organization:

I. Vocabulary (10 terms, 2 pts. each for a total of 20 points)
II. "Something different" (5 points)
III. Slide identifications (15 images, 5 points each for a total of 75 points).
IV. Extra credit (5 points)

There will be no long essay on this exam. To prepare for the exam you should review the powerpoints that were shown in class. Remember, I will only test you over images that I showed you in class that also appear in your text. The powerpoints are posted below. You should also review Near Eastern and Egyptian stylistic conventions, you should be able to discuss differences in iconography between Upper and Lower Egypt, and you should be familiar with the Amarna style. For the slide identifications you should know the name, period, medium, material (what it is made out of), the pharaoh who commissioned the work, the architect (when known). You should also know the function of the work.

There will be a study session in Second Life on Wednesday the 16th at 8:30 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the ASU Virtual Library.
