ASHES2ART
Ashes2Art is an innovative
program created by Dr. Arne
Flaten (Assistant Professor, Art History) and
Paul Olsen (Professor,
Graphic Design) at Coastal Carolina University. During the first year of the
program Coastal Carolina students worked on three areas in Florence,
stitching panoramic images to create 360 degree views, writing detailed
essays about the monuments, works, and artists, as well as creating
extensive bibliographies for each site studied. The results of this project
can be seen at
http://visualart.coastal.edu/ashes2art/.
During the Spring of 2007 Coastal Carolina students will be turning their
attention to Delphi, and this time ASU students will be joining them as
part of a collaborative effort. The 3D reconstruction of an archaeological
site in which many of the monuments are poorly preserved has different
challenges than those faced by the students working on the Florence project.
Students will be working with archaeological plans and excavation reports to
recreate the buildings as accurately as possible, incorporating background
about the sanctuary and the critical role that Delphi played in antiquity.
