Lambda Nu

LN

Lambda Nu (LN) is a national honor society for the radiologic and imaging sciences. It's objectives are to:

  • foster academic scholarship at the highest academic levels

  • promote research and investigation in the radiologic and imaging sciences

  • recognize exemplary scholarship

There are currently 85 LN Chapters in 36 states with new charters being issued every month.

Lambda Nu's name is derived from the lower case Greek characters in the formula ln, which represents the physics of the inverse relationship between wavelength (l) and frequency (n), an essential parameter across the diversity of modalities comprising the professions.

In a similar manner, Lambda Nu uses the upper case Greek characters L (Lambda) and N (Nu) to represent the inverse relationship and delicate balance required between the art and the science inherent in the radiologic and imaging sciences professions of:

  • radiography

  • radiation therapy

  • nuclear medicine

  • diagnostic medical sonography

  • cardiovascular-interventional technology

  • mammography

  • computed tomography

  • magnetic resonance imaging

  • quality management

  • bone densitometry

Lambda Nu's Home Chapter is at Arkansas State University.

Lambda Nu's colors are:

maroon for the radiologic and imaging sciences
forest green for the health professions
gold the ancient color of honor

You're Invited!

Individuals who have achieved academic honors are welcome to apply for acceptance to Lambda Nu. The national criteria are a 3.0 grade point average (4 pt scale), AB@ average, or equivalent academic measure after one full time semester of a professional program, although school chapters may set higher standards. Exemplary honors may be achieved upon evidence of additional professional recognition (i.e., academic paper or poster presentation, publication, etc. according to individual Chapter standards). The national one-time induction fee is $20 for students and $40 for faculty, while the optional annual alumni fee is only $3.  Individuals may apply for membership only through a local Chapter, which may have additional dues and other membership requirements.

Start A Chapter At Your School

Starting a new Honors chapter of Lambda Nu is easy. Simply contact the national Home Chapter.  All accredited radiologic and imaging sciences programs are eligible for charters to establish their own chapters to recognize and honor those students exhibiting exemplary scholastic ability as students in the profession. There is a one-time charter fee ($100), after which the national organization provides a wide range of services to help start and maintain honors programs in all the radiologic and imaging sciences in all schools (hospital medical centers, community colleges, and universities). Services range from recognition paraphernalia for graduation (pins, certificates, honors cords, gown stoles, cap tassels) to national scholarship recognition and awards as well as grants for advanced study and research.  A single chapter may induct students from all programs conducted by the institution chartering the chapter.
