Program Overview
The Master of Music Education degree consists of 30 hours of advanced study in music and education.  The comprehensive curriculum is designed for both public school educators as well as for those who plan to continue study at the doctoral level.  Classes are scheduled to allow degree completion either as a full-time or part-time student.  The Department of Music entrance examinations in music education, music history, music theory, and ear training assist in planning each student’s exact course of study.  Click here for a study guide.

Admission Requirements
Students seeking admission into the Master of Music Education degree program must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School and the specific program requirements (see Graduate Bulletin).  In addition, applicants must have completed a minimum of 18 semester hours of professional education courses including the requirements for a valid teaching certificate based on a four-year teacher education program.  Applicants who do not meet the requirements for a valid teaching certificate based on a four-year teacher education program will be required to complete the undergraduate courses required for such a certificate.  These courses may be completed concurrently with graduate work, but must be completed before the student is admitted to candidacy for the degree. Applicants must also take the Department of Music entrance examinations in music education, music history and music theory.  MME applicants are also required to complete the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) before being admitted to the program.
